If you have never considered a martial art, let me suggest here to be your starting place. Kung Fu and Tai Chi offer an excellent form of exercise that covers everything: strength training, flexibility, and awesome weapons. That in and of itself is amazing, but go deeper, open up more and you will be awe struck by the discoveries you make inside yourself. I found the best me yet; a me that I have never known. Monk Wise Martial Arts Academy is by far the best martial arts studio in Utah, if not all of North America. I have been a student at Monk Wise since 2012 and have been enriched by the spirit of the masters and the beauty of Chinese culture. I have grown as a person not just physically but spiritually as well through kung fu and tai chi. The adult program at Monk Wise is extensive but presented in a way that is welcoming and supportive no matter your background in martial arts.
I've been attending classes here since my youth and it's been a good growing experience. I've seen people develop fitness and martial arts skills from coming a couple times a week when they can and I've also seen people come nearly every day and be part of the performance team. This is a great studio to fit your personal fitness and martial arts needs and desires whether that's going to be a smaller or bigger part of your life.
I started out bringing my kids here, and pretty soon decided I needed to join in the fun! I've been so impressed with the amazing instructors here. They really tailor the classes to the students' level. I've been particularly impressed with their adaptive instruction with elderly students and students with disabilities. As someone with lower back issues, I have found the increase in core strength and overall flexibility has dramatically reduced my level of back pain. I also really dig the historical and cultural information passed along during classes.
And the weapons classes rock.
